City on Fire
"Novels like this one come along very rarely - a magnificent and brilliant work encompassing so much and in such depth that the investment of reading all nine hundred pages seems so small for the great reward afterward." - Raul, First Floor Inventory Manager
Fans of fine fiction and new literary talent, join us tonight as we welcome one of the year's most talked about debut novelists with one of the most buzzed about books of the season. Garth Risk Hallberg's work has appeared in a number of magazines and literary journals, including Prairie Schooner, Glimmer Train, and New York Magazine. His first novel, City on Fire, is a 900+ page saga set in 1970s New York. From the downtown punk scene to the glitz of moneyed Manhattan, from Central Park on New Year's Eve to the infamous blackout of 1977, Hallberg weaves a dynamic portrait of the city through a series of interlocking characters. This is an ambitious work, the type of novel you live inside of and are reluctant to let go. We're very excited to welcome Hallberg here to BookPeople and hope you'll be here with us tonight to meet this rising new writer.
