American Short Fiction invites you to the first installment of our issue-release event series—a reading and party to celebrate the newest addition to the magazine: Issue 61. Join us at 7 pm at Companion on February 29. It's a bonus day, so let's make the most of it!

Issue 61 brims with fiction that astonishes us with its language and humanity and ambition—stories that take us from the jungles of Peru to the fairgrounds in California's Central Valley to the secret universities of a Russian-occupied Poland. Contributors include Caitlin Horrocks, Manuel Muñoz, Sara Majka, Kathryn Scanlan, and Bob Prohel.

Come for the issue's coyotes and runaway parents and suitcases full of money, but stay for the craft beer and the wonderful readings—playwright and wunderkind Diana Lynn Small will read from Caitlin Horrocks's "Paradise Lodge," and the esteemed poet and Spanish language translator Liliana Valenzuela will read from the Manuel Muñoz's "The Reason Is Because." We are also thrilled to present award-winning author and all-around champion of the good Deb Olin Unferth, who will be reading from her own work.

The event will start promptly at 7 and readings will begin by 7:15. We look forward to seeing you there!
